This morning I’m missing Fred, my brother in law. That is going back twenty years at least.. during the Falklands saga he was a very senior civil servant. When it was all over he occasionally told us of the way it had been handled by Mrs Thatcher , the rest of the government and the civil servants. It was gripping stuff ! And funny at times...he was an excellent raconteur. What he would be making of our present situation given a little inside information would have kept us all smiling for years. Unfortunately he is no longer with us...but his wit and story telling still delight me when I remember. I just hope this present lot of politicians are better than we suspect they are!

I actually think that most of those in government are doing the best they can. It is possible to dig down and question some decisions taken, and the media seems to be trying hard to take pot shots at the politicians, but the reality is that we voted for the people leading us, for better or worse, so we should be critical, once the dust has settled.
Your brother in law sounds to have had inside knowledge, which we at the time in the armed forces were not really given. We did a good job despite the difficulties and more importantly, we won. Other than that, 2 people that I knew well were killed by friendly fire, which wasn't released until well after the conflict - and I suspect that it will be much the same with this crisis.
