Getting back to normal?

My outing yesterday was a liberating experience. I got very cross with myself before getting into my car to drive to the nearest post box. It felt odd as I drove along an unnaturally quiet road. Pulling into the side road close to the postbox I got out of my car. A voice rang out. "It’s Jean." The woman waved enthusiasticly. I waved back. Lots of faces appeared...it was a lovely day and people were taking the sun enthusiastically. I drove home filled with joy. The letter had been posted but the reassuring news was that we are all still here...following the rules as laid down for dealing with the pandemic. I have no more plans to drive anywhere else but at least I know my car was working well. Later I got a call from the garage....it’s nearly time for it’s MOT...so that’s now booked in..and they will come and collect it. Life returning to normal feels possible...providing this appalling pandemic relents at some stage.. For people like me....who have lived most of their lives it’s easy to cope...it’s the young who are suffering I think. How long it will all go on is not known just now...but the disruption of education for the young is potentially very damaging for us all. We need life to go on......for us old ones as well as the young...but finding out just what normal is going to consist of we will only know much later....

I am delighted you ventured out and feel that people were greeting you with enthusiasm. There is life outside the lockdown, a careful one, with being alert and observing sensible precautions and sanitary rules.

If you haven't yet got a mask or gloves, they are readily available online. Look for CE Marks and grades such as E95 or E99 which are british made to government specifications, and they are not expensive.

Today I'm taking my spouse to donate blood. She has received specific instructions about wearing a mask and hand sanitation etc and keeping distance. Like food shopping, plenty of scope for organisers to space things out, control access and to monitor activity.

I'm praying for your confidence to achieve a little more, when you feel able.
