Drinking alone.

I used to throw a good party. Back in the day when I was a youngish teacher I also produced plays regularly at our local theatre. So it was my job to host a party fairly frequently . My house was big enough to hold a lot of people and everyone brought a bottle with them. The parties were always well attended and went on well into the night. I cooked lots of party food as my contribution. On the day of a party I started early in the morning in order to have an array of tempting food laid out for the evening. I thought of all this yesterday when I found myself ordering food and drink from Marks and Spencer. I rang them up after making a mess of ordering on line...I hadn’t set out to get any more alcohol...but in the end I did...it was easier than trying to separate the drink from the food...so more booze is heading my way! Unfortunately I’m the only person in the house . Having a party would be frowned on in case the virus got loose amongst us so I fear I’ll have to drink it all myself! Oh dear!
I really don’t drink to excess. But I have got into bad habits living on my own. I always have a glass of wine with my meal. During the evening I often have a glass of something cheering whilst I watch what ever is on the TV. Some nights it’s all too easy to have an extra glass .....or two. Living alone means that there is no one to see my attempts at opening some bottles of wine but I’ve invested in an electric thing which extricates the corks very efficiently. I am being careful , all too aware of the dangers involved. But it’s very comforting to sit with a glass in front of me watching the dreadful news. Hic!

You don't have a drinking problem Jean.
You drink so there is no problem.

I think that you just like to shock the neighbours with the empties piled up outside your door on collection day. I reality, you have a sink to pour the wine down, rather than over indulge, as you have set the precedent of umpteen bottles out every collection day, you need to keep up appearances.

Alternatively, you bathe in fine wine just for the luxurious feel you get from it. Cleopatra comes to mind!
