If someone had included in a stage plot the request to change the date of the next election by one of the candidates it would have produced much laughter...but actually it is serious...President Trump says he would like to be sure that the election is fair...without any attempt by anyone interfering with it. This would be very funny in a play for the TV but he is actually serious. He has tried to move the date of the election in November to several weeks later . Of course it won’t happen but the fact that he has advocated it seriously is really worrying. He has tried several times to change the rules of various branches of government. Clearly he won’t be allowed to get away with it but it’s not stopping him from trying. Several times over the last weeks he has told everyone that he has ultimate power as president. Sensible Americans have told him that he is not a king...he is subject to rules like everyone else but then he moves on to something else... The good news is that he is obviously worried. Staying on for a second term is clearly very important to him. He’s got used to it now. The officials who are reporting these ideas are living dangerously...sacking them all has been mooted..and it is becoming very clear that over the pond we have a man who wants to have a second term as president and doesn’t much care how it can be affected...America is one of our main allies. We don’t want Boris going in the same direction!

Trump at his egotist best. I believes he is the saviour of the nation and that he is irreplaceable.
This is a ploy which was speculated at on several blogs and US papers that I read during the year. He can't imagine not having power and he will probably have a fit if he loses in November. But he has no doubt lined his pockets during the term of his presidency, despite laws against it.
If he tries to stay in power, having lost, he will provoke a constitutional crisis of a magnitude never seen before in US politics. The reality for him is that his presidency expires on the 4th anniversary of his taking power and he will be plain Mr Trump once again. Then the real investigations can be held into his presidency and he can be held to account for the things he has either done, or not done as President. I'd love to see him in a jail cell in striped pyjamas
