Onwards!

I am up very early...I needed to talk to my gardener before he started work. I’ve been down to the bank and have actual cash to give him this time. He didn’t look very pleased when I gave him this news...but it’s something I have to do. Obviously I can’t give him cheques any more but I find I can’t demand an explanation from him...he looked very anxious when I caught up with him on his arrival. I’m not often dressed and walking around the garden at eight am. It’s a new one on us both. I obviously need to persuade him to accept the cash...but that is a problem I have yet to solve. I really don’t know why. I have no problem paying my cleaner...or anyone else for that matter...though I did lose my window cleaner after the first attempt. It’s a very tall house standing stark against the sky line...I wouldn’t want to attempt cleaning my windows...but the force of the wind does the job quite satisfactorily. It’s been some time since I reviewed all this...in the past several young men have attempted to deal with the roof. When I had the house whitewashed it took two men, one holding the ladder whilst the other covered as much wall as he could reach. Next year it may need renewing. Oh dear! I have several locals who will give it a go...hopefully...my mind is now covering all the slightly dodgy jobs I need doing at some stage....at least the gardener stays on the ground.! Rural Cornwall close to the sea is a joy to live in...but it does have its problems..and I have only become aware of one of them this week! Onwards and upwards...with any luck. ....fingers crossed!
