I feel mean about thinking this...or saying it but I wish almost anyone but our present Prime Minister was in charge of this extra ordinary period we are stumbling through. I think it’s true that we are all feeling our way through unprecedented events....or lack of them if like me you are self isolating. The problem is that we don’t know if Boris really is in charge. It seems more likely that Mr Cummings is taking most of the decisions. Even the fact that he broadcast his explanation of his rule breaking from the rose garden in Downing Street suggests that his input into the running of this government was as great if not greater than our actual Prime Minister. Weeks after the event of his rule breaking there is still a bad feeling about the governments approach to it all. The simple truth about all this is that I don’t trust Boris at all....or his chief helper. You will all know that I am not a Conservative but I’ve never felt so uneasy about the way things are going during this period of danger for us all. It’s not their fault that this virus is killing too many of us but every time the rules change I am left with anxiety about those in charge of the country. Reading articles from the papers on my iPad I see that I’m not alone...and I wish that during this summer when Parliament is not sitting there was someone I trust in charge...and not an over ambitious civil servant whose breaking of the rules has been rewarded rather than punished...Boris seems unable to deal with it all on his own. He wanted to be Prime Minister but this situation was not actually foreseen by any of us. An election isn’t the answer just now but I don’t know what is. And neither does our PM I think.

This was a failure of leadership. When Boris decided to back Mr Cummings instead of sacking him, or forcing him to resign, he failed the leadership test and showed a lack of integrity.
Alternatively, he might have preferred to have a potential enemy inside his camp, peeing out, rather than outside peeing in.
Whatever made him back cummings was misguided and has betrayed the trust of those who voted him into power.
Couldn't agree more! Cannot understand just why he was chosen to lead the Party when Jeremy Hunt was available. My hope is that following Brexit he will resign and a more sensible PM is chosen.
