It has taken me several attempts to find the right way of getting my blog out this morning...just as well I started early. This lovely weather is waking me much too early...bright sunshine before seven o clock is always going to get me moving...
Well, that and the news . The headline that grabbed my attention this morning was that the Prime ministers U turns are creating a climate of uncertainty. Well no one could argue with that. Is anyone sure where we are going or what we are doing as a nation right now? What ever is happening here at home though is nothing compared to the strange bits of news from over the pond. Every time Mr Trump speaks about anything it seems an army of fact checkers get onto the job . If we have problems with Boris they are nothing compared to what is happening with Mr Trump. According to several articles I’ve read recently everyone seems to accept that his speeches are wonderful creations bearing little regard to the actuality . . If this is anywhere near to the truth it is very strange . We all know that politicians put their own spins on the facts but across the pond this seems to be getting out of hand. Daily fact checking of all Mr Trumps utterances take up rather a lot of space right now. There seems to be widespread acceptance of his disability to be truthful. So let’s hope we don’t get to the same position here. We all accept that some attempts at putting a good spin on bad news is inevitable but we surely need to know that politicians are mostly honest. Or am I just too trusting?

I suspect that by now, we are all used to our own governments u turns or last minute decision making, normally announced via social media (not via normal news outlets) which affect so much our our lives in the UK in our current context.
The USA are dealing with having voted in a liar and blusterer with a different reality from everyone else as their president. And if the polls are correct, it looks like they (and we) will have him for another four years of the same.
But the Church of England has got into the same mould, having taken government guidance they put their own spin on it and send it out late to every parish priest or licensed minister via each diocese, and with little or no time to implement the changes demanded. When I hear my Vicars frustration at yet another last minute demand, which involves changes to how we worship or minister to our congregation, but also clouds the way that planning can be done. It can actually be a day to day means, rather than the more careful planning and preparation and obtaining the necessary resources to run the pairhs, the Church Hall (still closed) to keep everything Covid-secure, a designation that can also change at a moments notice.
The Church of England has been visible in this pandemic due to the actions of individual parishes with little help or encouragement from our Bishops or Diocesan senior leaderships. If this provokes a slimming down of such numbers, why does a diocese need an additional one or two Arch Deacons, or Suffragan Bishop, with all of the costs involved, funded by the parishes, who have suffered enormous loss of income during the lockdown, but are still expected to pay their share ontime - from what> the good will of parishioners, which is running a little thin in places.
Some times I think that we have too many Bishops and Senior Staff and it was time for some strategic pruning.
