Going out!

Well I am writing this today, Sunday whilst its fresh in my mind. I have been out! I decided to start my car as it had not been out for at least a week. Once it was running it seemed like a good idea to take it for a drive...so off we went. After a few moments I realised how quiet the road was. There was only me on it. It took me several more miles to realise why! We were not supposed to be going anywhere...we are locked down! Once the penny had dropped I turned the car round and came home! I had seen another couple of cars on the road but no people....It was a deserted road I was driving along. Usually if I take my car for a spin I end up in Portscatho....the next village. I can always find people to talk to there but this time it was empty. Empty? Portscatho? Ok ... it was about then that I realised that we are actually locked down and not supposed to be going anywhere! I got home fast then ....there were other occasional vehicles moving but mostly I had driven in solitary spendour. It was very strange...weird even. Often in the winter you see it quiet but this was different....the road was deserted! But at least my engine had had a run...ahem!

Good morning Jean, how lovely that you have been out for a drive. As I understand the rules we are allowed out to exercise, get supplies or other essential reasons. I’d have thought giving your car a run was essential!!! 😊😊
Hope you have a good day!
Take care

@ Martha’s Sister...Unfortunately giving your car a run isn’t classed as ‘essential’ This came up in the first Lockdown it’s based on keeping people off the road to avoid accidents that might require hospital treatment.

We are on lockdown, but essential journeys such as yours to keep your car running would be a reasonable excuse. We have two cars, and we turn them around every two weeks, so that both get to be run.

Leaving a car idle isn't good for it. I got out at least every other day, to church or for some essential shopping, occasionally to the chemist for meds or just to check on people who are isolated. I don't go in, we stand socially distanced at the door and have a chat. I would like to take Home Communion to some, but that is a definite No, No under current precautions.

Hopefully, the news about a vaccine might make our lives simpler in the next month or so.
