Life goes on.
I am up, dresed and ready for what ever the world throws at me today. I know its Sunday, Thats the news! I have been outside and its dry , the sun shines and very litle is moving so far! This solitary life is fine on days like this. I remember Mothering Sundays from long ago...with my mother and her mother too! But we were all together during the war years. Today its very different. Living alone in my big house I dont feel lonely at all. Just very fortunate! Yesterday I dug out some essential supplies! Well one bottle actually. The scotch is now is sitting on the desk in my office. Its far too early to drink alcohol but at some stage I will pour myself a happy mothers day glass of the good stuff! That might not be enough to make me feel much better but at least its a gesture! In the past I have taken lots of mothers day services with churches packed with visiting families. Now on my own it feels just as relevant. I am a mother ...I have loved mothering my babies and I am very sad to have outlived them but life is going on here in deepest Cornwall. Its just that this pandemic means we dont get together any more! So be it! I can do this!

Good afternoon Jean. I hope this Mothering Sunday is going well for you with plenty of happy memories and reflections of times gone by.
I have always found it a tricky Sunday to lead worship as I am acutely aware that the emotions stirred by the day are very complex.
Hope you can raise that glass to good times!
Glad you are well on a day which is problematic for many of us who lost our mothers to long ago to remember them, when I was 3 years old. Having been in care for nearly six years following that, I have no mother figures to relate to.
But how we care for each other and my Vicar this morning preached on the qualities commonly attributed to a Mother, which he told us were Godly qualities, which we could all possess, if we recognised them. Gave me food for thought perhaps that God doesn't have a gender, but might be both Father and Mother God.
We can also relate to Mary, the Mother of God in this way.
