Arcane rules!

Requests from old friends and colleagues arrive daily. Word seems to have got around that I’ve retired.
I try to explain the esoteric rules of the Church of England to explain why I’m suspended from ministry but am met with first laughter and then with considerable indignation.
To be forbidden to work because I took a funeral when I should have been attending a lecture on Safeguarding is proving very hard to explain.
Gales of laughter is the first reaction followed by shocked blank disbelief.
I am getting used to not working... it’s quite nice to lie in bed on Sunday morning instead of rushing down the road to get to the eight o’clock communion.
I have got over the first shock. At my age I really don’t need to work!
But it is weird.
Old friends advise that it’s all going to be fine in the end....after I’ve attended the next Safeguarding lecture which is not until October!
People not involved with church simply don’t believe it. Others express indignation .
I am getting used to it....it’s giving me leisure to see old friends. Trying to explain why I can’t give them communion any more is hard to explain...but most just enjoy a natter....
Time is passing...it’s all fine now I’ve accepted the situation. But many people here are reflecting on the odd rules of the Church of England...and it’s not good.
