Football versus Thornbirds.

This hot summer has brought football into the daily diet offered on TV , alot of football.....so I have inevitably reached for the favourite boxed sets.
Anything written by Aaron Sorkin always gets my attention and The Newsroom , which I first watched several years ago has been the favourite yet again. It is still a mystery though as to why it was cut short after a brilliant start.
Poldark, and George Gently are amongst those series which I’ve revisited in the last weeks.
But having run out of alternative boxed sets a return to the West Wing was inevitable.
First though I ran my eye over the number of boxed set now available.
Remarkably a lot of old TV shows are now on offer. I had an hour or so looking through what was available.
And then I found one from my youth....something I’ve not even considered might be available. In fact I’d forgotten it ever existed.
The Thorn Birds was on the TV when I was in college. I saw some of them during a holiday but all I really remembered about it was that it was shocking...so naturally I sent for it.
Last night I watched with morbid fascination as the young priest fell in love with the beautiful girl.
He has yet to act upon it but watching him trying to be a good priest whilst falling in love with the beautiful girl is definitely absorbing viewing.
My mum had obviously watched it when I arrived back after a term away from home and what I mostly remember was her attempts to not let me watch it.
We live in very different times.
I’m only half way through but Richard Chamberlain is still fighting it.....
That it is now easily available is the remarkable thing.
I’m not sure how much longer the football goes on but I am certainly not bored!
