Our present government is now dedicated to Brexit. In yesterday’s cull of long standing MPs Boris chose people who would deliver. The number of casualties is really scary. We are now being governed by a set of people whose sole aim is to deliver our break up with Europe.
I am worried and I think we all should be. Common sense seems lacking in the new decisions of our new Prime Minister. A lot of able politicians have been sacked if they disagree with him. This is I suppose natural to some degree but we do surely need some experienced politicians taking our important decisions. Their first meeting has started....promptly at eight o’clock cars rolled into Downing Street. Boris clearly means business.
I wish I could hope that common sense will take over...but just now it doesn’t look good. It is a very potent rebel alliance which is now installed. Boris seems set on delivering. If you voted to leave Europe you will be very pleased....but those of us who didn’t must be feeling scared at the speed at which it now develops .
I certainly am. I voted to remain that’s no secret . Many of us must be feeling anxious right now. And what is happening this morning is very scary....walking away from our security into an unknown scenario does not look or feel good.
Boris in number ten is gathering people around him who share his convictions. But the number of colleagues who are not willing to join in is both worrying and oddly reassuring...I am glad that some of the Tory hierarchy are refusing jobs in the cabinet. We are told it is potentially a crisis situation.
It’s hot in London I am told....here in Cornwall it’s fine...a gentle breeze ruffles the trees outside...but I spare a thought for all those men in suits taking vitally important decisions this morning in Downing Street. A new government, a heat wave and the threat of destructive action up country seems a long way away but I will be in listening mode once again.
I’m all in favour of new brooms being allowed to do what they were elected to do. But the speed at which all this is happening feels bad. Cabinet members seeing their own sacking on Twitter is not the way to run a country. Once again I pray.

I think more than ever we need a general election.
Boris seems to think that he can behave with impunity and has started off until he gets to the first vote to leave without a deal, but that won't be until September, when parliament returns. In the meantime he will do what he can to break the EU resolve not to change anything in the withdrawel agreement.
If he doesn't get his way, I anticipate some illiberal outbursts and fury and foot stamping - he has form for that. But I believe that there are sufficient enemies on his own benches who will vote to bring down his government to stop him leaving without a deal.
A general election on brexit will follow, and the danger is of a tory/brexit party coalition, which might let Mr Farage into Parliament, that the country won't tolerate, so they will vote for anyone but the Tories or Brexit, Bojo will have egg on his face, and we could have Mr Corbyn oh dear not a prospect that I would like either.
Perhaps we might get the nice lady, Jo Swinson of the Lib Dems as PM, that would be good, she seems to speak sense in general. And that might unite the country more than either of the other lot seem to do. They are about divide and rule, rather than collaborative rule.
We shall see. Interesting times, but troubling ones as well.
How about we let Boris settle in and then we judge him on what he actually does? The Conservatives have had 3 years to sort this mess out and didn't. Now we have someone who may do so people are still not happy. Why are we all so keen on Europe? We should never have joined that much is clear.
