Virus ?
Listening this morning to the news that the new virus affecting parts of the world seems to be spreading fast. It has reminded me of the bug that caused havoc on the last cruise. Twice the ship was stopped in the middle of the Atlantic to get a passenger winched up into a helicopter to get him to hospital. On one of these occasions I was sitting waiting to be looked at by the doctor. I had forgotten the medication to deal with a skin condition so my visit was not urgent in any way and I sat waiting in the middle of what looked like chaos. I don’t believe any of us had the bug that’s causing this present problem but it did give me a picture of how illness was dealt with on board a liner housing thousands of people. The rest of the boat were given no details of why two people had been airlifted off but because I had been in the sick bay at the time I was left wondering then and this morning hearing the news I have started pondering again. We are used to getting flu and bad colds so I do wonder why these new bugs are causing such a degree of angst! Now safely home I am wondering..... why this present illness is causing such panic. Are we being told everything?
I am glad to be safely home in rural Cornwall...

it does seem that China has not been completely frank about the virus, which is apparently a derivative of a virus which caused Saars a few years ago. But when it died down relatively quickly, medics failed to continue research to develop a vaccine. So, people were unprotected and now it is trying to manage a virus, which is toxic, passed on quickly which highlights the importance of personal hygiene and also cleanliness of our surroundings. I am unsure of the long term prognosis. Measles is now becoming an issue due to people refusing to vaccinate children with the MMR vaccine, demonstrating the damage done, including serious illness or even death, when a bug gets out of control due to fake news being spread about it.
