A query caused by yesterday’s blog made me go back far too many years...to when my children were still in school and I was young....ish. I did have a bike. A bike with a motor. I could never call it a motorbike really...it was never in that class. But it was a Norton Villiers Triumph! Yes! Really! Unlikely though that sounds.. .. it was a product invented during a period of shortages. And my school was a long way from where I lived. I suppose the correct name for it was a moped and it got me about in times of petrol shortage! My children thought it hilarious...Mr Toad exclamations followed me as I took it out and up the road. The children I taught thought it highly unlikely as indeed it was but it meant I could get about in the years when I taught in the next town...it was the only way I could get to school until I could afford a car! I kept a spare helmet along with mine but seldom took anyone out on it. For some reason they all shook their heads nervously when I suggested it! My motor bike days were blessedly brief but now recalling them I realise once more how very fortunate I am now... but I’m glad I had the experience...it’s not everyone who ran a Norton Villiers Triumph during the seventies! It’s not something I remember very often. The woman I was then is light years away from the person I am now. But I suppose that’s the same for us all.
