Back to normal?

The news that we are relaxing many of our rules for keeping us safe is not giving me much confidence. I have very little faith that we are all going to be safe now. Down here in Cornwall we dont see much of the sort of behaviour that puts us at risk thankfully but sometimes our many visitors do behave in odd ways as part of their holiday! I am becoming very much too careful probably...but the truth is that I dont mind being on my own most of the time..I have got used to it over the last year or so. I am told that in some of the hotels our visitors do behave badly sometimes but this is fairly unusual. I have never seen any evidence of bad behaviour. But then I do spend much of the time on my own by choice! No doubt we shall see fairly soon how our visitors behave when they arrive here...Lots of the hotels are filling up nicely I am told. But as yet the churches are not. I have had enquiries about whether we are doing services but as yet we havnt ....So people are encouraged to do their own thing when the churches are open. We do have a caretaker looking after the churches....in a quiet way most of the time. So far all is well I am told. Lets hope it stays that way!

Good afternoon Jean.
I hope the day is going well.
I’m a little surprised to read that there are no services in your local churches.
The benefice my village is part of are rotating the weekly service between the different churches.
And my denomination (URC) are back in person now, although still socially distanced, wearing masks and not able to sing or have coffee after the service, but it’s good to be together again.

There are services scattered around the villages. We are sharing. Most of the time. But there’s plenty to choose from.....

We are in an Urban area. In our Urban Village we have 2 Baptist Churches (who don't talk to each other) One Methodist, One Congregational and one Icthus Church and within half a mile of each other.

Our Church (CofE) is the only one holding in-person services, which are also broadcast twice a week. Sunday and Thursday. Before Covid we had five services a week and a full list of events in Church and the Church Hall, we are resuming service gradually, our Church Hall reopened last week as a Polling Station for the local elections and now we are resuming our Weekly Coffee morning this Friday and the Regular Users with contracts will resume at the weekend. Our Uniformed Organisations are hoping to resume soon. They all use the Church Hall or our Scout Hall.

Our Art & Crafts Club are planning to restart the following week.

I am hoping to be able to reopen the Church daily for Private Prayer and visitors when our volunteer team regroup. Some will be willing, others will not after a year and a half of closures, lockdowns and disruption. I am hopeful that some new faces will join us.

Not normal by a long way, "Hands, face, space" will continue for a while, and our Lunch Club will not reopen until the Autumn.

Nothing will ever be as it was before, so much change has happened, we have lost so many. But God willing, we will persevere with our mission and ministry.
